Lodging Policies

As you plan for your stay at The Highlands, the details make all the difference. Consult the information below for information on our standard lodging policies. And if you have additional questions, feel free to contact Central Reservations.

Check-In & Check-Out

Check-in and check-out for all accommodations takes place at the Main Lodge front desk.

Deposit, Cancellations,  & Resort Fees

A 50% deposit of total stay or $100 per person for golf package reservations is required to confirm your reservation. Failure to arrive on a confirmed reservation date will result in forfeiture of the total deposit amount. Cancellations received fourteen (14) days or more than 2 weeks prior to your arrival date will allow a refund of your deposit minus a $10 administrative fee.  If you cancel within fourteen (14) days and have purchased deposit assurance, we will hold your deposit for up to one year to use towards a future lodging stay; without deposit assurance your deposit is non-refundable. Cancellation of your lodging accommodations will also result in the automatic cancellation of any tee times booked in conjunction with those accommodations. Special event cancellation policies may exist, please ask about your reservations. 

Lodging Guests of  The Highlands are welcomed and encouraged to take advantage of all resort amenities. We are pleased to offer these amenities as a benefit of the 10% resort services fee. Listed below are the amenities our resort has to offer, for more, please visit our Guest Services & Amenities page: 

  • Scenic Chair Lift Rides (summer)
  • On property shuttle
  • Use of Tower Lobby computer, printer, and internet service
  • Newspapers in Hotel Lobby
  • Family Movie Nights
  • Common area Wi-Fi
  • Children's activities such as arts and crafts 
  • Campfire and Smores
  • Front Desk assisted Boarding Passes
  • Board games are available 24 hours in Hotel Lobby
  • DVD & Blue Ray Players
  • Special activities and movies during exceptionally cold days during the winter season
  • Fireworks on NYE and other special occasions


Guests can request trash and linen pickup anytime during their stay. We will be happy to deliver any additional in-room amenities upon request. 

Package Pricing

Packages are charged per person based on a minimum number of occupants which varies per room. A supplemental charge will be assessed in the event that this criterion is not met and changing the number of guests in your unit will change your rate. 

Golf Packages, Tee Times & Additional Charges

Greens fees and arrival rounds may need to be signed for at the golf shop. Your tee time schedule and charges accompany your written confirmation letter. Please verify all information immediately when you receive it. All courses enforce a dress code including collared shirts with sleeves and walking shorts or dress slacks. Cut-off pants are not allowed. 

Pet Policy

Pets are allowed in select accommodations. There is a $50 pet fee, per night, for pet-friendly accommodations.

Please call Central Reservations to reserve pet-friendly accommodations. Boarding kennels are located within 20 minutes of The Highlands. 

Snowmobile Policy

Michigan state law prohibits operation of private snowmobiles on resort property. Please phone Central Reservations for information about area trail access & to arrange special parking.
