A Girl's Golf Getaway

Your guide to fairways, off-course fun, and northern Michigan views

If you love the game but don’t see yourself in the typical “golf trip” marketing, it’s time to rethink what a weekend on the course can look like. The Highlands offers the perfect blend of play and exploration, whether you're all about the tee shots or just tagging along for the fun.

With four championship golf courses, cozy lodging, local exploration, resort activities, and all the northern Michigan charm you can handle, this is where your next girls’ trip begins.

Day 1: Arrive, Relax & Toast to the Weekend

Start your weekend off right with an easy check-in and a welcome drink at the Discovery Center. Whether you are staying in the Main Lodge, a nearby condo, or a cozy cottage, there is room for everyone and plenty of space to spread out.

Once you are settled, stretch your legs (and your swing) on the Back Yaird, our 27-hole Himalayan-style putting course. It’s casual, fun, and right next to the Slopeside Patio — perfect for a little friendly competition and good food.

Want something more challenging? Try Doon Brae (located behind the Main Lodge), our new short course meant for golfers of all levels to enjoy the experience. Each golfer can determine the level of challenge that suits them for that round - and yes, you can play more than once.

Cap off the night with dinner and end it with a bonfire and a classic s'more.

Day 2: Tee Off & Treat Yourself

This is your day to shine. Start with breakfast at the Main Lodge, then grab your clubs and head out for a morning round on The Heather — a Robert Trent Jones classic with tree-lined fairways, just-right challenges, and enough photo ops to keep your camera roll busy.

After your round, refuel with lunch on the 19th Tee or hit the Scenic Chairlift Ride up the slopes and some mid-day zen. Want to stretch it out post-round? The hiking trails are quiet, scenic, and perfect for a low-effort nature adventure.

In the afternoon, make your way to Pond Hill Farm, just 15 minutes away, for wine or cider tasting.

Wrap up your day with a stroll through downtown Harbor Springs or Petoskey for shopping and lakefront views, then head back to your home base for fireside s’mores or a good old-fashioned wine night in.

Day 3: Golf & Go

Your last day calls for one more round. Try the The Moor for a fun, strategic play or Arthur Hills for that signature elevated tee shot moment.

Be sure to squeeze in a little Disc Golf: take the chairlift up to our disc golf course, play a casual round, and enjoy some appetizers and drinks afterward at Slopeside. Not into disc golf? Totally optional, but it is a fun way to wrap up the trip with a laugh.

For one final unwind, take a spin in a kayak or canoe on the pond, or relax poolside with your feet up.

Where Golf Meets Girlfriend Time

Whether you are working on your game or just along for the fun, The Highlands is the kind of place where fairways and friendships go hand in hand. It’s time golf trips got a little more relaxed, fun, and full of the stuff that makes a weekend trip even better.
