Earth Day: Towards a Greener Tomorrow

On this Earth Day, let's take a moment to pause and appreciate the magnificence of our planet while acknowledging its delicate balance. At The Highlands, we recognize the profound connection between humanity and nature, and we are committed to coexisting with our environment and thriving in harmony with it. Join us in commemorating Earth Day as we continue to embark on our journey towards a greener, more sustainable future.

A year ago, Boyne Resorts unveiled The ForeverProject Master Plan, marking our unwavering pledge to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions across all operations by 2030. This ambitious plan charts a course towards a more sustainable tomorrow, outlining twelve high-impact big moves to propel us forward. Today, we're thrilled to share that in the coming months, The Highlands will actively focus our sustainability efforts on two of these Big Moves: our Electrical Infrastructure and Existing Building Decarbonization.

Electrical Infrastructure

Recognizing the limitations of our current electrical framework, originally designed for a different era, we're taking proactive steps to bolster its capacity. Partnering with GRP Engineering, we're conducting a comprehensive assessment of our existing electrical infrastructure to understand its capabilities fully. Armed with this knowledge, we'll craft a strategic improvement plan to accommodate the increased electric load demanded by our sustainable vision. This summer marks the beginning of this crucial endeavor and a critical step to meeting our existing building electrification goals and setting us up to meet the electrical demands of future development.

Existing Building Decarbonization

While long-term improvements to our electrical infrastructure are underway, we're not waiting to enact change. This summer, our focus turns to decarbonizing our existing smaller buildings, like lift houses, warming huts, and storage facilities. We will significantly reduce emissions from these spaces through targeted electrification and efficiency projects, including LED lighting upgrades, improved insulation, installation of weather stripping and occupancy sensors, and the transition from gas to electric heating units. Additionally, our resort-wide initiative to transition all our buildings to LED lighting is nearing completion, marking a significant milestone in our sustainability journey.

So, as we commemorate Earth Day, let's recommit ourselves to safeguarding our planet for future generations. Join us at The Highlands as we continue to innovate, collaborate, and lead the way towards a brighter, more sustainable future. Together, we can make a difference—one green initiative at a time.
